Manheim Township police said they arrested a Reading man early Friday after a brief chase by car and on foot.

Cory C. Rodriguez, 18, was charged with receiving stolen property and fleeing or attempting to elude police, police said.

A 17-year-old West Lawn boy, who was with Rodriguez, was not charged, police said.

Police gave this description of the incident:

Shortly after 1 a.m. Friday Officer Michele Johns tried to stop a suspicious vehicle on Petersburg Road in the Neffsville area.

After pursuing the car on Route 501, Oregon Road, and Petersburg Road, Johns discontinued the chase.

A short time later, Officer David Kantner saw two people get out of the vehicle while it was stopped on Darlington Court in Neffsville and run into a nearby field.

Police surrounded the field and took the pair into custody for questioning.

The car, police said, had been reported stolen from Shillington in Berks County several days ago.

Rodriguez was arraigned before District Judge David Miller and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
