Chris Heisey has gotten his well-deserved promotion.
After a torrid first half of the season in Class AA, the Donegal graduate was called up last weekend to the Louisville Bats, the Cincinnati Reds' team in the Class AAA International League.
He played his first game for the Bats last Saturday, and it didn't take long for him to make a big impression with his new team.
Tuesday, in his fourth game, he played center field, hit third in the order and went 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and two RBIs in an 8-7 loss to the Gwinnett Braves in Lawrenceville, Ga.
In his first seven games with Louisville (through Friday), Heisey was hitting .346 (9-for-26) with four doubles, a home run and four RBIs. He had a .370 on-base percentage and .615 slugging percentage.
Heisey will play in the All-Star Futures Game at Busch Stadium next Sunday. The game, which features the minor league's top prospects, starts at 2 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2.
Heisey, 24, hit .347 (94-for-271) in 71 games this season for the Carolina Mudcats in the Class AA Southern League.
He had 18 doubles, two triples, 13 homers, 40 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .426, his slugging percentage was .572 and his on-base plus slugging was .998.
Through Thursday's games, he was ranked first in the Southern League in average, slugging percentage, on-base plus slugging, hits and total bases (155).
He was third in on-base percentage, tied for fifth in home runs and tied for 10th in stolen bases (13).
Heisey was a 17th-round draft pick by the Reds in the 2006 draft, after his junior year at Messiah College.
This is the third straight year Heisey has received a midseason promotion.
In 2007, he went from Class A Dayton to Sarasota, in the high Class A Florida State League. He hit a combined .295 with 10 home runs, 51 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.
Last year, he was promoted from Sarasota, where he hit .287 in 436 at-bats, to Class AA Chattanooga, where he hit .316 in 79 at-bats.
