Police have charged a convicted sex offender with the rape of a teenage girl who last month attended a party at his home.

Richard Earl Peterson, 40, of 1494 Briertown Road in East Earl, invited several juveniles to his residence on June 13 and gave them alcohol, prescription narcotics and marijuana, police said.

During the party, a 16-year-old female became ill and laid down in a bedroom. Police say Peterson entered the bedroom, removed the victim's clothes and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

He is charged with rape, sexual assault, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and corruption of minors.

During the investigation, police discovered Peterson had been convicted of rape in 1994 and is a lifetime Megan's Law sex offender who had failed to register his current address, as required by law.

Peterson was arraigned June 24 before District Judge Rodney Hartman on the Megan's Law offense and committed to Lancaster County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Senior Judge Richard Reeser arraigned Peterson July 2 on the rape and related charges and hiked his bail an additional $500,000.

Peterson remains in Lancaster County Prison.

According to court documents, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for today on the Megan's Law violation. A preliminary hearing for the additional offenses is set for Friday.

Ok, not sure about that but if you say so. momof3boz is down to "momof2 now" per an old posting that I have on my info. Also momof3 had left LOL but came back with different name????

I've never had a previous acct, still only have 2 boys, matter of fact I will say 8 y/o and 3 y/o.
I don't belittle people, and I'm usually not rude, I post my thoughts and/or facts they are just that, thoughts/facts.
I don't have reptiles in my home, as my son is allergic and I don't have opinion on the Roseboro trial at this point, I haven't even read the article.
I have no reason to get rid of a screen name come back with a different one, I stand by what I say, and won't hide behind another screen name.

the person you're thinking of is "momof3boz"...
maybe you'd like to look at that screenname again?
as well as the correct spelling and level-headed and clear-headed posting?

because i DO know who you're talking about, and that's NOT her...

Newsflash people!!! The police have very little power to prevent crimes!!!

Unless you want to pay to have them on every street corner, and in everyone's living room, watching you 24 hours a day, there's not much they can do. All they can do is come in after the crime is committed and clean up. I am very thankful for the few crimes that they can prevent.

YOU are in charge of protecting yourself. YOU are in charge of making sure that you or your 16 year old daughter are not attending an illegal party with a person 25 years older than you.

Please note that I am not addressing the laws in this post ... I agree that more proper laws could have prevented this. However, once the person is out on the street, the cops can not be held responsible for not tracking him 24 hours a day.

Remember, something like that happens, then people complain that their rights are lost to some police state style survilance.
