Three people were seriously injured Tuesday night when their vehicle veered off the road and struck a pole in Rapho Township, fire officials said.

One female passenger was airlifted to Hershey Medical Center and the driver and another passenger, both males, were transported by ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital, according to Manheim Fire Department Assistant Chief Duane Ober.

Ober said that all three victims appeared to be teenagers. State police did not release their names Tuesday night, and their conditions were not immediately available.

According to Ober, the three were traveling southbound in a sedan on Shumaker Road north of Manheim when the driver lost control of the vehicle just north of Old Line Road at about 7:15 p.m.

The vehicle skidded off the roadway, smashed into a telephone pole and came to rest amid gravestones in a small cemetery, he said.

Ober said two of the victims had to be extricated from the vehicle. He said all three victims were conscious when they were transported from the scene.

At press time, the cause of the crash was unknown.

State police accident-reconstruction experts remained at the scene late Tuesday.

Shumaker Road was closed from Old Line Road to Oak Tree Road for several hours.

Manheim Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Mastersonville Fire Company, Susquehanna EMS and ambulance units from Manheim and Warwick and Manheim townships.

Came by this on the way home around 10 and they had the road closed. Saw the skid marks this morning and where the car went into the grave yard. I truly hope that all of them are okay.....

Ok. Well im sorry to tell everyone the blunt truth but I was the main witness on the scene of this crash. This article barely touches the surface of what I saw that day. When I was driving up from moyer ridge road i was going speed limit and out of no where came 2 cars. "OBVIOUSLY RACING" I noticed how wrecklessly they were driving. At a 45 mph speed for me they well were over the speed limit. Basically how they crashed is by the other car they were tagging with stopped at the Stop sign and they tried to go around and couldnt make it. Thus they hit into the pole and were injured. This experience has taught me alot about driving respectivly. My prayers be with them and I wish them the best. God Bless

Tough story to swallow, is it true they were racing? Is the driving getting a citation?
