Seat belts do save lives and minimize injury! This isn't always the case, but a large percentage of the time they do what they were designed to do - restrain the occupant and save lives.
I realize we were all young once and made mistakes, but I think there needs to be a concerted effort to get all drivers and passengers to "buckle up". Personally speaking, when I was taught to drive, the first thing I had to do before anything else was buckle my seat belt. When it comes time to teach my daughters to drive, I will teach them the same way.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims for a speedy recovery!
Just want to clear something up. The newspaper was slightly off on this story. The Driver wasn't buckled up. The only one buckled up was the front seat passenger. He had minor injuries. The driver was in serious condition. He and the rear passenger had to be "cut" out of the car.
I'm happy to report ALL are going to be ok. Krystal will have a long road to recovery, but she will be ok. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. I'm sure the family felt them!
I too enforce seatbelts in our vehicles. We do NOT move out of park unless EVERYONE is buckled up. I do not allow ANY of my kids in vehicles with teenage drivers. Even if we are sitting in a parking lot waiting, we ALL keep our seatbelts on, because you just never know. SAFETY FIRST!!
