A 15-year-old Manheim girl remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday after a vehicle crash Tuesday night in Rapho Township.

State police Trooper Jerry Harper said that the girl sustained severe head trauma, and he described her injuries as "life-threatening."

The teen is a patient at Hershey Medical Center. She was airlifted to the center after the 7:15 p.m. crash.

A 17-year-old male passenger remained in serious condition at Lancaster General Hospital with head and chest injuries, while the 17-year-old male driver was treated and released, Harper said.

Police said the driver was the only one wearing a seatbelt.

Because they are minors, police did not release the names of the teens but said that all three are from Manheim.

According to police, the three were in a 1995 Dodge Avenger on Shumaker Road when the driver lost control of the car while negotiating a curve just north of Old Line Road.

Police said the vehicle spun counterclockwise, struck a utility pole and came to rest in a small cemetery.

Both passengers had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel.

Harper said the investigation was continuing Wednesday.

Is not one of the other boys also injured badly? Maybe not as bad as her from the sounds of it.....

Yes, both boys are home and doing fine (for the most part). They have alot of healing to do emotionally. But Krystal could use the prayers.

Seat belts do save lives and minimize injury! This isn't always the case, but a large percentage of the time they do what they were designed to do - restrain the occupant and save lives.

I realize we were all young once and made mistakes, but I think there needs to be a concerted effort to get all drivers and passengers to "buckle up". Personally speaking, when I was taught to drive, the first thing I had to do before anything else was buckle my seat belt. When it comes time to teach my daughters to drive, I will teach them the same way.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims for a speedy recovery!

Just want to clear something up. The newspaper was slightly off on this story. The Driver wasn't buckled up. The only one buckled up was the front seat passenger. He had minor injuries. The driver was in serious condition. He and the rear passenger had to be "cut" out of the car.

I'm happy to report ALL are going to be ok. Krystal will have a long road to recovery, but she will be ok. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. I'm sure the family felt them!

I too enforce seatbelts in our vehicles. We do NOT move out of park unless EVERYONE is buckled up. I do not allow ANY of my kids in vehicles with teenage drivers. Even if we are sitting in a parking lot waiting, we ALL keep our seatbelts on, because you just never know. SAFETY FIRST!!

Wasn't there an accident with three teenage girls on one of these roads about 3-4 years ago?
I seem to remember an article about the girl recuperating, there was a photo of her with her mother I think.
It seems this happens again and again.

There was one on Kilmer Road, which is just about two miles up the road. Very similar circumstances......teenage kids, one car accident that lost control, went into a field, although in this one that happened on Kilmer Road, at least one of the passengers was ejected out of the vehicle.
