A Mount Joy man was one of two people killed in a crash Wednesday night on the Indiana Toll Road, according to Indiana state police.

Eric S. Kauffman, 21, of Mount Joy, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Jessica S. Brown, 22, of Beaver Falls.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the 7 p.m. crash.

State police said that Brown's 2000 Ford sedan was traveling west on the Toll Road when it crossed over the median and went into the eastbound lane in Steuben County.

The Ford struck an eastbound 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer near the driver's-side door and was forced underneath the truck, police said.

Police had not determined why Brown's vehicle crossed the road.

According to police, the truck driver, Jeramy Joseph Webb, 32, of Morenci, Mich., was not injured. The rig is owned by JRV Leasing of Marinette, Wis.

Police said they didn't know where Brown and Kauffman were traveling to, and they said the investigation was continuing.
