(2)Tiffany Ann Bleacher, 33, of 101 Morgnec Road, Apt. G-303, Chestertown, Md., and formerly of 350 W. Chestnut St., Quarryville, was charged with three counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition.
Chief Richard D. Finfrock said in a news release that a representative of the building supply business at 44 Gay St. reported to borough police on May 21 that the company believed Bleacher had embezzled a significant amount of money.
After investigating, Finfrock said he concluded Bleacher had embezzled $180,602.85 from the company between November 2007 and May 2009.
Finfrock alleged that Bleacher wrote checks to herself from the company's petty cash account. As the controller, Bleacher was responsible for reconciling accounts and was able to conceal her thefts, Finfrock said.
The embezzlement was discovered, he said, when the fraud department for the company's bank brought to the company's attention the large number of checks with Bleacher as payee.
Bleacher surrendered to Chief Finfrock Monday morning and was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Isaac H. Stoltzfus.
Bleacher was released on $50,000 unsecured bail, pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 4.
