To all y'all who think the guy was a wimp, did you ever notice on "Cops" , that the woman's story is always believed without question? It's no wonder men don't speak up about being abused.

I don't think he was a wimp. I think he could've handled it differently but was probably so hammered down he wasn't thinking rationally to come up with a better plan. Some women are mean as snakes and will attack a man at the drop of a hat (yes, even sleeping). This man did show concern at least about her threat of committing suicide. I know of a woman threatened that with her husband. She actually took some pills, he called her on it by calling EMS and they put her in the psych ward for a few days. When she kept telling him she wanted to go back home, he told her she did it to herself. She was back home in about 3 days.

I've enjoyed reading the humorous posts in response to this article. The real issue is the man didn't have benefits that allowed him to afford the mental health care that both he and his wife needed. It sounds like to me there was some verbal and/or emotional abuse going on here.

I was in a similar situation several years back, and while I didn't go to the extreme this man did, I did have a nervous breakdown due to job and home stress, not being able to cope. My job didn't include benefits that included mental health counselling. An initial visit at the local clinic cost half my weekly paycheck, and I was the sole support in the household, couldn't do it.

One hell of an act of desperation, wasn't it!
