I do understand that pedophilia is a mental illness but I don't think that should give perps "get out jail free cards". Many people with mental illness are convicted of crimes and held accountable for their actions. It is possible to acknowledge the mental illness and still believe that the person should be expected recieve consequences for his/her actions.
Also as a parent I have wonder why teens and preteens have unlimited access to the internet but that is for another thread.

if you attempt to make arrangements to have sex with a 12 year old girl, you are a perv and a pedophile. it's not like this dude was on the net arranging to take the child to bible study- he made it very clear what his intentions were, and he showed up....enough said. how can you not expect people to be outraged when they hear about something like this? it's sickening. and it's almost as sickening to hear certain people on here trying to defend the guy. he should be ashamed, embarassed, humilated, etc.....he tried to make arrangemts to have sex with what he thought was a child, and he got caught. shame, shame on you!!!!!

You're misrepresenting my position. I am concerned about the fact that therapy may not actually "cure" the pedophile and am unwilling to risk further criminals acts against children. That's not revenge; it's prevention. That's why I advocate life imprisonment.
