Arron Achey has had a lot of memorable games on the football field.
But he might have turned in his best effort yet last Saturday night when he helped Elco improve to 2-0 with a 43-12 win over Pine Grove.
The fourth-year starting senior QB completed 7-of-12 passes for 256 yards — and four of those completions went for touchdowns.
He also rushed for 55 yards, made seven tackles (including four solos) on defense, and also returned a punt for 14 yards.
For his big effort in Elco's win, Achey is the LancSports.com Player of the Week.
Achey's TD tosses against Pine Grove covered 75 yards to Brendan Auman, 56 yards to Eric Ondo, 27 yards to Bryan Bowman and 54 yards to Tyler George, respectively, as the Raiders continued to build momentum toward the L-L League Section 3 opener in Week 4.
But the Week 3 docket has a tasty opponent waiting when cross-town rival Lebanon invades Myerstown for the Bologna Bowl — and for Autism Awareness Night.
Achey has been deadly through the air in the early going, completing a cool 65 percent of his passes (20-of-31) for 420 yards and five TD against no picks. He's also rushed for 120 yards and a score.
More importantly, he and the Raiders are 2-0 and are gaining steam.
