A man was hospitalized Monday after his bicycle collided with a car, police said.

According to Ephrata Borough police, a car driven by Joanne O. Hoffert, 71, of Ephrata, was turning left from Route 272 onto North 11th Street when it collided with the bicycle.

The bicyclist, Brad Bewley, 44, of Akron, was riding northbound on Route 272 when the accident occurred.

Bewley was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Monday night, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The accident was under investigation.

See, here it would appear that the biker was in the right. I know the area very well and the biker was riding with the flow of traffic. It's obvious the lady didn't see the bike. The vehicle by law must yield to oncoming cars AND BIKES. They're not always easy to see. My heart goes out to this guys family. I hope he pulls through!

I do believe this man was not a "spandex wearing" cyclist, I was told he was Mennonite. The only thing he could've done to be safer was to wear a helmet. My prayers go out to both families, I'm sure the woman feels terrible as well, but we all need to pay better attention to our surroundings!!!

How could you possibly determine who was at fault giving such little information, no matter how well you know the area. Sometimes accidents are just accidents. My thoughts and prayers go to both families. For anyone this would be a very heavy burden to carry in your heart. Hopefully everything turns out ok.

The biker was heading towards Ephrata via 272 in Akron. The car was heading towards Lancaster and attempted to make a left turn. The biker came right across the street that she was looking to turn and hit him. How hard is that to figure out? Autos by law have to yield to bikers and cars while making a turn. Period. How much information is needed to attain that opinion? (said as nicely as possible, of course)

Isn't that the street (11th) at the Goodwill Store? That has always been a bad intersection. Mainly because, there isn't enough room to pass on the right and people behind you get impatient waiting if there is a long of traffic coming down from Akron.
