A 73-year-old Elizabethtown woman suffered multiple injuries when a car struck her as she walked along the road Monday afternoon, police said.

The pedestrian, Ellen Sundy of 415 W. Ridge Road, and the driver, Carissa Stoner, 18, of West Donegal Township, were transported by ambulance to Hershey Medical Center, Northwest Regional Police said.

Sundy was in critical condition on Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Stoner was treated and released, police said.

Stoner's car left the roadway in the 400 block of West Ridge Road and struck Sundy and a mailbox at about 4:25 p.m., police said.

Police said they have no witnesses of the accident. They could not confirm a media report that Sundy was retrieving her mail when she was struck.

Police ask that anyone with information about the accident call 367-8481. Officer Ken Whitebread is leading the investigation. The Lancaster County Northwest Crash Team is assisting.

The driver was probably talking or texting on a damn cell phone as usual, isn't that what most teenagers as well as some adults are doing these days while driving. I feel bad for the elderly woman, she can't even walk down the street with out being run down, by someone not paying attention while in control of a car.

Let's not cast judgement without knowing the circumstances. Isn't it better to think the best of someone? No one is perfect and no one wants to hit another person. I'm sure the driver, whether she was in the wrong or not, is very sorry. We all make mistakes, and we don't even know if she was doing anything wrong at all. Why not pray for both instead of ranting?
