(2)The incidents occurred in the late evening and overnight hours on Oct. 12 and 13 in the Bowmansville area.
Cpl. Neil Greener of the state police barracks in Ephrata attended the Oct. 13 township supervisors' meeting and said that the crimes all occurred in vehicles that were left unlocked.
Greener said that some loose change, cash and a pocket knife were reported stolen. Five Dutch Wonderland tickets also were reported missing from a vehicle. The value of the items taken is unknown.
One suspect has been identified, but the person had not been charged with any crime, Greener said on Oct. 16.
A township resident spoke at the meeting and was concerned that police coverage is inadequate because the local force was disbanded in 2006.
Brecknock had its own police force for many years, but the township decided to abandon it because it was no longer practical, according to board Chairman Garth Wise.
Wise is confident that using state police resources offers the best available and most reasonable protection for township residents.
Local fire departments are displaying messages on station billboards urging residents to lock their vehicles.
The same measures are being emphasized by the state police.
"Please take proactive action not to be a victim," Greener said.
