A boat and a trailer were not stolen overnight Wednesday from outside an Earl Township business after all.

The owner told New Holland Borough police on Thursday that a family member had taken the boat to have it waxed and cleaned as a surprise for him, police said.

The boat and trailer, together valued at $13,000, were reported as stolen at 2758 Division Highway, New Holland, Thursday morning.

Maybe the owner got cold feet while trying to pull off insurance fraud. Wouldn't that make a better investigative story? hahahehehaha

This happens more than you might think. I was at work one day and my boss got a call from a neighbor that someone was rolling his "yet to be restored" Rolls out of his garage and onto a trailer.

He calls the cops, and he arrives at the same time they do. Guys doing the loading find themselves backed up against the truck with their hands up. Out from the house comes his wife screaming "It's not being stolen." Cops don't know what to do, boss doesn't know what to do, guys loading car don't know what to do.

Turns out the wife was having the car professionally restored as a surprise for his birthday. Needless to say that day more than my boss were surprised.

I wonder if the man is profusely thanking his family member for his feeling like an idiot, now that he knows his boat wasn't stolen. Bet he wanted to crawl under a rug when reporting it wasn't actually stolen.

Guys loading car probably needed a drink soon afterwards. Probably thought wifey was getting them into something they wanted no part of.

That's not the worst they've ever done. I remember a story about a shooting; they published the witness' name, her address, and what time she leaves for work in the morning!

That took a bright lightbulb to do something like that. The switch must've been turned off, no doubt.
