Two Manor Township neighbors were arrested Sunday after police said one of the men shot the other's dog.

After learning who shot his dog, police said, the second man came after his neighbor with a baseball bat.

The dog, a 7-year-old boxer, had to be taken to a veterinarian and put down because of the injuries he sustained, police said.

Police arrested:

• Brian Girouard, 41, 1741 Hemlock Road, who was charged with recklessly endangering another person and cruelty to animals for allegedly shooting his neighbor's dog.

• Joshua Rice, 33, 120 Albright Ave., who was charged with terroristic threats, for allegedly threatening to hurt Girouard with a baseball bat and a dog law violation for letting his dog run loose.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m., according to police, when they were dispatched to a reported animal attack in the 100 block of Bucknell Road.

Girouard told police the boxer had wandered near his property and growled at him and his two young children, according to Officer Wayne Smoker.

Girouard took his children inside the house, returned with a pistol and shot the dog, police said.

The wounded dog went home.

When Rice saw his injured dog, he went after Girouard with a baseball bat, threatening to hurt the man, police said.

Police, who said they were unaware of any prior problems between the men or with the dog, said Rice and Girouard were awaiting arraignment late Sunday night.

Champ was his name and he was a strange looking boxer because of his overbite and he didn't have many teeth. He loves to play with kids and didn't have a mean bone in his body. He was my grandkids buddy and my 8 year old grandson had to hold him while he practically bled to death while his mom called a vet. It looked like a massacre had occured in the house there was so much blood from the kitchen to the livingroom.Champ was a little mischeviois like most boxers and found an escape in the 5ft solid fence that surrounded his back yard and must have heard some kids and decided to join them for some play and he and the other dog got out. It's not like he was the local dog that roamed the neighborhood as a menace and I have never heard him growl. So he probably saw this guy come out and looked at him to play and the guy blew his jaw off. He ran home to the only safe place he knew and luckily he didn,t shoot the other dog too. He was in escrutiating pain before he died and no dog should have had to endure such pain. It crushed his jaw and lodged in his neck so they did the true act of love and sent him to the "rainbow bridge" where there is no pain..
He will be missed and my grankids will never forget the sight of their beloved dog screaming in pain.
I am sure if this happened to anyone out there you might lose your cool too to walk into your house to find so much blood that you couldn't walk anywhere without stepping in the blood of your pet.

I am so sorry for your grandkids loss. I had a feeling there was nothing to fear. It makes me sad such a great, loved dog (or any dog for that matter) died to the degree of suffering theirs did...but I trust if there is a Heavon animals will be welcome. (many certainly deserve it more than many ppl on this earth!)
Hugs to your grandkids. I hope this neighbor is punished to the fullest extent. Thanks for giving your personal insight.

Rest in peace, Champ.

amishcntry this story is being posted several places on the internet. The guy that shot the dog did not know the law or he would have used a different story not just that a dog growled at his kids. Have a feeling you have been contacted by some of the animal groups already. You have a chance to make a difference in helping other families not go through what you did. I know your hurting but use it to make a difference. Okay. Did forward this story as well as your post. So sorry for what you are going through and especially the kids.

not knowing the law is no excuse. If my kids opened the door to my dog with half her face gone...I'd be after the idiot with a bat, too. Why was this guy shooting randomly within city limits? He obviously had the gun loaded and nearby.

What is the issue with it being loaded and nearby?
