The death of a 24-year-old East Hempfield Township man whose body was found on Route 283 after he apparently crashed his car 40 feet above on a Route 30 overpass has been ruled accidental.

Zachary D. Lefever, of Greenridge Drive, died Saturday of multiple traumatic injuries sustained in his fall onto Route 283 from the highway overpass above, Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen G. Diamantoni said.

Toxicology tests, which can take two two three weeks to complete, have not yet come back.

Lefever was found dead by rescue workers responding to a reported one-vehicle crash on westbound Route 30 at 2:35 a.m. Saturday. The crash occurred on a small section of the highway that is in Lancaster city's jurisdiction.

The vehicle was found empty in the shoulder of westbound Route 30, but police spotted the man lying on the highway about 40 feet below the south side of Route 30, where it crosses over Route 283.

Lancaster city police, whose investigation is ongoing, have released few details about the crash. A spokesman said Wednesday there are no indications Lefever was thrown from the car when it crashed.

Lefever's fatal injuries were caused by the fall and were primarily to his head. It remains unclear, however, whether Lefever fell or jumped over the concrete barrier and onto Route 283 below.

"I don't want to speculate as to what happened here, whether (his fall) was accidental or he was trying to leave the area. But he was definitely not ejected from the car," city police Lt. Todd Umstead said.

Umstead said "nothing would lead us to believe" Lefever committed suicide, and the coroner determined the manner of death was accidental.

Lefever was a 2003 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School who worked as a receiving specialist at QVC.

Lefever's hobbies included racing cars and trucks, particularly his Ford Mustang, according to his obituary, which appeared in Wednesday's newspaper.

Dozens of Lefever's friends have posted condolences and memories of the young man on Facebook, the popular social networking site.

Some have also expressed confusion about the crash.

"i think about you all the time wondering what really happen(ed)," wrote one. "i have so many unanswered questions that only you can answer … "

Wrote another: "drove on rt 30 today past the site,, wondered what happened bro? wont' be able to go that way for a while."

This thread isn't going to last long either if you keep it up. Sarcasm is one thing here in the threads but when you constantly call someone a name aimed directly at that person when you don't agree with them is another thing. You've done it numerous times and others have fired it back.

I'm guessing the countdown has already begun?

Look around and you'll see plenty of us taking shots at one another(some in a fun way others more directly) but you will rarely see one calling someone the names you have called or have been called be let go for very long.

Good luck to you and you might enjoy it here if you become a bit more shall we say subtle in making your points.

Thanks for the tip, dude. I didn't know. I'll try to be more subtle.

It sounds like you really want this guy to have been drunk and won't consider any alternative. Just out of curiousity, if the results come back and say he wasn't drunk and the coroner suggests that he had a heart attack, became disorriented, got out of his car for help, and fell over the bridge...well, if that happened....what would your response be?

They already ruled on COD and it wasn't a heart attack. If the BAL comes back with no alcohol in his system, I run out and play the lottery because it is a day for miracles.

I would like to think if it comes back with no alcohol that you would offer a sincere apology for being so rude instead of running out to play the lottery.

Nope, no apologies and let me tell you why. I am an objective knowledgeable person who has no ties to this man , no reason to feel sorry. I have not called him any names, but have simply pointed out my presumptions based on the substantive forensic evidence at hand. Well, off to the gym. See you later TB'ers.

I'm just gonna let that one go. You said it all in that post.
