Children who were unable to get a swine flu vaccine from School District of Lancaster last week will get another chance this weekend.
SDL plans to administer up to 1,000 vaccines to school-age children on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at McCaskey East High School.
Any child who lives in the district and attends school — public or private — in Lancaster city or township is eligible, provided he or she is accompanied by a parent or guardian who must sign a consent form.
Adults who accompany students attending private schools are asked to bring identification to verify where they live.
Ten nurses from district schools will administer the vaccines. The district also has requested assistance from Lancaster General Health nurses.
Officials expect to give shots to at least 700 children over four hours, said Carole Clancy, coordinator of special education and health services.
If demand for the vaccines can't be met Saturday, an additional clinic may be scheduled, she said.
Officials will distribute tickets to people waiting in line at McCaskey East for the vaccines. People will not be permitted to save places in line for others, Clancy said.
Last week, SDL administered 500 H1N1 shots over two days and had to turn people away because of demand for the vaccines.
Following Saturday's distribution, the district will evaluate whether it needs to order more vaccines, Clancy said.
