Looking for a way to offer more to its members, Millersville Federal Credit Union will merge into LANCO Federal Credit Union by year's end.
The combination, effective Dec. 31, was announced Friday, a day after it was overwhelmingly approved by the 800-member Millersville FCU.
The Millersville FCU office at 22 W. Cottage Ave. will remain open, operating as a LANCO FCU branch.
The Millersville FCU staff of three employees has been offered jobs with LANCO FCU.
Millersville FCU, formed in 1963, approached LANCO FCU about a combination this spring.
The small credit union reached out after losing money for six quarters, struggling to grow and finding itself too small to broaden its offerings.
LANCO FCU president and chief executive officer Barry Ashenfelder said the merger will bring Millersville FCU members numerous products and services they don't have.
They include certificates of deposit, money market savings accounts, IRA accounts, business loans, business checking accounts, 24-hour telephone banking and three ATMs.
Millersville FCU, with $3 million in assets, is the third credit union to merge into LANCO FCU, with $49 million in assets and more than 10,000 members, since its inception in 1965.
LANCO FCU, based at 349 W. Roseville Road, also has offices in Brownstown, Mount Joy and Willow Street. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Lancaster County.
