A wedding photographer has been charged with bilking customers of money and their photos.

William James Wellman, 57, of 1372 Hammon Ave., Ephrata, was charged Friday by East Cocalico Township police with theft by deception and deceptive and fraudulent business practices.

According to police, Wellman, who operated James Wellman Photography from 2006 to 2009, defrauded at least 20 customers out of more than $48,000, charging them for wedding pictures they never received.

Wellman was arraigned before District Judge Nancy Hamill and released on $10,000 bail.

According to news reports, Wellman's problems began about two months ago when he sent a letter to customers. The letter said he was going out of business and would not be able to supply the customers with the photographs they had already paid for.

Good for the cops to go after this guy. Now if they would go after the others in their back yard. I wonder why they say that they can't do anything but take a complaint when it comes to others. Guess I should have gone to News 8 to pressure you.

AP Photography I'm talking to you! At least this guy admitted that he wasn't able to do the work. You just made months and months of broken promises before you vanished.

Yes, people like this should pay. My neice was one of his customers she paid $2000.00 and all she got was a CD of her wedding. This happened in 2008.

I recommend finding someone you know. We used my wife's cousin and she did a great job. Let me know if you'd like to be referred to her.
