(3)Brubaker is an owner of Brubaker Farms in East Donegal Township.
The George C. Delp Award is presented annually to a Lancaster County resident who has made a significant personal contribution to the agricultural community and exemplifies outstanding dedication and commitment to preserving and enhancing agriculture in Lancaster County.
"I'm so honored to have been in this position. I'm very humbled to receive this award," Brubaker said.
"My father's father was challenged by his father when he bought the farm I live on today in 1929 in Depression time to make it," Brubaker told the crowd. "My father has challenged me to do a good job, and we're still living on the same farm today. I've been very blessed. My two sons, Mike and Tony Brubaker, have been partners with me on the farm, and they are a great asset to building Brubaker Farms."
Currently, Brubaker Farms is home to 750 dairy cows, 600 young stock and has a 48,000 bird broiler chicken operation.
Brubaker is innovative and has been environmentally conscious in his business practices, said Steve Hershey, chairman of the Chamber's agriculture committee as he was presenting the award.
Brubaker's most recent project was a manure digester, which generates enough electricity to sell back to the local utility to power 150 to 200 homes a day.
Besides the digester, Brubaker has a conservation plan for his farm to address any soil loss concerns relating to his farming practices.
A leader in the state agriculture industry, Brubaker has been a member of the State Milk Marketing Board and Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry's agriculture committee.
He also has served as a board member and president of Lancaster County Farm and Home Foundation, chairman of the Lancaster County Farm Service Agency, a trustee of the Lancaster Farmland Trust, ambassador for the Citizen Network for Foreign Affairs and chairman of Environmental Resource Coordinators for Lancaster and surrounding counties.
Brubaker also has served as chairman and vice chairman of East Donegal Township Board of Supervisors and as a member of the East Donegal Planning Commission.
In addition to the George C. Delp Award, Brubaker previously received the Chamber's 2009 Exemplar Award, as well as numerous other awards and honors.
The Lancaster Chamber also Thursday evening presented the Bicentennial Farm award to Loren and Kyra Fry of 410 Habecker Church Road in Manor Township for their colonial manor farm which has been in the family since 1741. The eighth generation is now living on the farm.
The Century Farm award was given to Farley and Michele Fry of 990 Dogwood Drive, Reinholds, whose farm has been in the family since 1812.
The Lancaster County Center of Excellence in Production Agriculture presented a $20,000 check for the Ag in the Classroom mobile science lab.
