By RYAN ROBINSON, Staff Writer

Police in Ephrata are trying to identify a woman found collapsed, possibly while jogging, on Saturday.

Police responded to a medical emergency at Ephrata Avenue and Second Street, near Ephrata Community Hospital, at 2:40 p.m.

A passerby had found the woman collapsed on a sidewalk, police said. No foul play is suspected.

The woman was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, police said. She was still unconscious today.

The woman did not have any identification with her, police said. She is described as a white woman in her late 50s or early 60s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, 150 pounds, physically fit, with brown eyes and short gray hair.

She was wearing a Timex watch, black stretch pants, a blue jacket, a blue "Jeep" baseball cap and size 7 gray Adidas sneakers, police said.

Anyone with information regarding her identity is asked to call Ephrata police at 738-9200.

Not laughing at the lady being hurt !!!!

I know, you were laughing at me. That's all right. My wife, Blondie, turned to me and said, "Don't say it. I know exactly what you're thinking!" And then she broke out in a big laugh.

She says she laughs a lot more since she married me. Most of the time, I don't have to say a word. She just looks at me, and knows what my comment would be.

I wonder if perhaps she was dumped in Ephrata after she collapsed elsewhere. If there wasn't something hinky going on, wouldn't the police have released some sort of a photo or sketch? As is, they don't even offer a very good description, such as her weight, and the color of her eyes.

If she doesn't live nearby, and she wasn't dumped, her car is surely parked nearby. They need to canvas houses, asking if the residents recognize her or know of a strange car parked nearby that hasn't moved lately.

I keep thinking of Wilson's girlfriend Amber, aka "Cutthroat Bitch" in House, MD. She died because she wasn't identified after a bus accident. If they'd have known who she was, they'd have found out that she was taking amantadine for the flu. Because her kidneys were damaged in the crash, they couldn't handle the amantadine, and it killed her. If they'd have known right away, they could have saved her.

On News Eight At Eleven, they described her, both Saturday and Sunday nights, as wearing black stretch pants and a blue baseball cap.

My conclusion was that she must have escaped from a locked ward; nobody in their right mind would be jogging topless in this cold weather.

Not funny. Not funny at all.

No proof of insurance = no insurance.

EMTALA. Learn about it.

I agree that circulating a photo nationwide would certainly help. There was a case recently of someone who had amnesia and the national news outlets published her photo and she was quickly identified and returned home. Someone has to know this woman.

Of course, she's unconscious, so it's hard to recognize someone with their eyes closed in a hospital setting, so maybe that's their line of thinking.'

This is another important reminder, though. Please don't go out without ID. Running, biking, walking your dog, etc. You should always have ID and preferably a cell phone with ICE numbers programmed in it exactly for this type of scenario.

Inconvenient? Maybe, when you have to figure out where to put it, etc, but it could save a lot of hassle if something happens and you can't tell anyone who you are.

When I go out to walk I always take my cellphone with me. I figure if something happens to me I can either call for help, or, God forbid, someone can look for ICE on my cellphone if I'm too injured to speak for myself.

She is probably still in the waiting room because she does not have health insurance.

I have been an EMS provider in Northern Lancaster county for about 10 yrs. The reason the women was taken to LGH was because Ephrata not only does not want this kind of patient they are unable to handle this kind of patient. This could have been classified as a trama and would have to be taken to LGH or Reading these are the closest Trama Centers. I personally would not take anybody to ECH if I didn't have to. The level of care in the ER is pathic. You wheel a patient in and they look at you and say what are you doing here. ECH Er is some of the worst care in the county. Medics are rude doctors act as if patient care is the last thing on there mind. ECH needs a full attidude adjustment. I hope the new LGH comes to EPHRATA
Wrong:
Its the way the call would have been classified. It was probably listed as a Trauma

EMS provider for the past 10 years on the north side....really?? How do you know that this would have been listed as a Trauma?
While I do agree that ECH would not have been the best place to take the pt, even if it was a block away, you can't know unless you were on the call. Sounds like you have a grudge against ECH and their medics....rude huh? ECH Medics are some of the nicest ones I know, not all of them but most. You should know you get a wide variety of Medics no matter where you go! You say you wheel pts in and they say what are you doing here.....do you ever give them a notification before arriving?? Do you ever ask for some guidance from the Medical Command?? Some of the worst care huh? I guess you don't get into LGH, LRMC, and HoLRMC all too often as they can be just as bad if not worse then ECH.

Do you really think LGH coming to EPHRATA is going to give ECH a full attitude adjustment when LGH and all the other hospitals in the county needs one too??

My guess is that this was called out as an Unconscious Person, or an Unknown Medical Problem class 1 which would bring a Medic.....rude or not.
