(2)Police charged Glenn L. Martin, of 1912 Concord Place, with theft for taking the money from the Fifth Avenue Card Shop and the Plush Place.
Martin was working as the accountant for the two shops at the time of the thefts.
Martin took the money from 2002 to 2009 by writing himself extra paychecks, inflating his hours and writing checks to himself, according to his arrest warrant affidavit.
Dan Kovalsky is the owner of Fifth Avenue, which is on the mall's center court, and Plush Place, which is no longer in business. He discovered discrepancies in his books in August.
Martin had been allegedly stealing money from the shops in a number of ways, according to an investigation.
Martin wrote checks to himself from 2002 to 2005. The total annual amounts of the checks ranged from $2,281 in 2002 to $22,611 in 2003, according to the affidavit.
Martin was responsible for making monetary payments on behalf of the shops and was permitted to use a rubber stamp bearing his boss' signature. He falsified entries in a ledger to cover the amounts of the checks, according to the affidavit.
From 2004 to 2009, Martin wrote himself extra paychecks. He gave himself $6,580 in extra pay in 2008 alone, according to the affidavit.
Martin also inflated his hours, writing himself checks to cover his extra "time" from 2003 to 2009. In 2008, he paid himself an extra $22,783, according to the affidavit.
In all, Martin took $153,405 from the shops' owner during the seven-year period, the affidavit said.
Martin was charged with eight counts of theft by unlawful taking and arraigned before District Judge Mary Sponaugle.
He is being held in Lancaster County Prison on $50,000 bail.
