(4)The Cocalico High School senior is, after all, an avid fan of cars — especially fast ones.
"I definitely got my love of cars from my dad," Eshleman said.
"I helped him as he worked on an old T/A Dodge Challenger when I was little. My dream car now is an Audi R8. It's a really fast car."
Eshleman has been finishing his college application process this month and now awaits positive news from several possibilities.
"I really want to get into M.I.T., but that's a really difficult school to get into. I'm also considering Boston U. and Northeastern," the 17-year-old explained.
He plans to major in computer engineering, possibly working in the future as a hardware engineer.
"I will be scheduling an interview at M.I.T. because that will hopefully boost my chances of being accepted," he said. "But I also like that Northeastern offers a co-op program that would begin in my sophomore year."
The 4.0 student, ranked fourth in Cocalico's class of 2010, is a National Honor Society inductee.
He is enrolled in several courses at Harrisburg Area Community College.
"This semester I'm taking psychology, and then next semester I'll be taking computer fundamentals and English composition," Eshleman said.
In addition to his college courses, Eshleman is enrolled in applied calculus and is working as a chemistry lab assistant for his service-learning project at Cocalico.
"I like the problem solving in chemistry, figuring out problems with the information (I) have," the teen explained.
Eshleman has experience problem-solving on a competitive level as a member of the Future Business Leaders of America.
"I competed for the past two years in Word Processing I and Word Processing II and qualified for the state competition," he said. "This year, I'm considering competing in Computer Problem Solving."
He traveled abroad last summer with the German American Partnership Program. He lived with a family in Altötting for three weeks.
"We visited Salzburg and Munich, and I even got to drive on the German Autobahn, which was so much fun," Eshleman recalled.
"I stayed with a family whose son was one year younger than me, and he actually built his own computer. We had a lot in common."
Musically talented, Eshleman recently completed his participation with the Cocalico marching band. He was the saxophone section leader.
He also plays alto sax with the high school's symphonic band. He has been inducted into the Tri-M music honor society.
The active teen is civic-minded, participating in the Leo Club, a student-based service group run by the Lions Clubs. He helped organize a school-wide blood drive earlier this month.
In the spring, the teen will resume competing as a distance runner with the Cocalico Eagles' track and field team.
He is active at Ephrata Community Church, where his father serves as executive pastor. He participated on a mission trip to Guatemala and works in the church's café.
"We sell coffee, smoothies and pastries in our Connections Café. It's just a nice place for our church members to hang out before and after services," he said.
Eshleman, a former Lancaster Newspapers carrier, holds a part-time job at Weaver Markets, Adamstown.
In his free time, he enjoys programming calculators and buying caramel lattes at the Denver-area Dunkin' Donuts.
Eshleman is the son of Kevin and Stephanie Eshleman of Reamstown. He has an older sister, Hannah, a student at Temple University.
