Rose Principe's secret ambition is to "live in Brooklyn and sell art in New York City."

Principe, 24, instead sells art in Lancaster. But that doesn't mean she's given up her dream. She's learned to "be patient, because good things will come," she said.

Along with two good friends, Principe runs The Painted Desert Gallery, 227 N. Duke St.

Art is her passion and Principe says, "My art is not so much about subject matter, but rather about the process of painting and creating a composition.

"I go into each piece not really knowing what the end result will be. I get bored with predictable painting, meaning that I don't like to paint what I see. I invent shapes and add and take away from them until the composition is interesting."

Next to art, her greatest indulgence is books. And that's fantastic for her as she is the bargain books manager at Barnes & Noble.

Principe has a solo exhibition, "An Invented Commodity," opening Dec. 4, at The Painted Desert Gallery. The show runs through Jan. 30, and there is an artist reception 5-9 p.m. First Friday, Dec. 4.
