Teen charged in crash that hurt 5

East Cocalico Township police on Wednesday charged a Reinholds teen with driving under the influence during a violent crash Nov. 21 that injured all five people in the vehicle, including the driver.

Ethan Michael Hartman, 19, was charged with DUI, aggravated assault while DUI and furnishing alcohol to minors.

Police said Hartman was legally drunk around 4 a.m. Nov. 21 when the car he was driving at a high rate of speed in the 900 block of Schoeneck Road, West Cocalico Township, crashed into a telephone pole and then rolled over several times.

None of the four passengers in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, and they all were ejected from the car.

A 16-year-old Denver girl was critically injured.

David Brubaker, 18, of Ephrata, a 16-year-old Reinholds boy, a 16-year-old Denver girl and Hartman all suffered injuries.

All five teens are recovering, police said Thursday.

Maybe, maybe not. And yet there will be another group of teens that will go out and do the exact same thing because "it will never happen to them."

They need jail time, not a Kleenex. If we don't start treating DUI like the real crime it is, people won't learn.

Where was the support they should have had prior to this happening. It isn't a secret that the football team at CHS had been caught drinking at the beginning of the season. NO PAIN, NO GAIN!!!

There is plenty of pain to go around now. Some kids have a rather tactile learning style and other kids are dumb or drunk enough to get into the car with them.
