(4)The Conestoga-based dairy said it had isolated the problem to fewer than 150 1½-quart containers sold after Jan. 28 in central Pennsylvania.
The ice cream had been distributed directly by Turkey Hill to 205 locations, including Walmart, convenience stores and some grocery stores, dairy spokeswoman Melissa Mattilio said.
The containers are being pulled from the shelves.
"As our drivers get around to those stores, they are verifying that the products have been pulled," Mattilio said Monday.
Turkey Hill issued the recall Friday after a customer alerted the dairy that day that there were almonds in a container of chocolate marshmallow ice cream and that the container did not identify the nut on its list of ingredients.
No illnesses have been reported.
Turkey Hill issued the recall because people who have allergies to almonds run the risk of serious reactions if they eat them.
"We actually narrowed it down to 2 minutes of production," Mattilio said. "It's a very small window, but we wanted to make sure we were extremely safe."
The recalled product is marked on the package bottom with the code "01/18/2011 56/L1." Preceding the code is a four-digit number indicating the production time. The recalled product includes a time between 02:25 and 02:35.
Consumers who have purchased containers of the recalled product can return them to the store for a refund. For more information call Turkey Hill Dairy at (800) 693-2479.
