If an audit shows no money is missing, the County has no loss.

Therefore, no crime.

The largest checks, for tens of thousands of dollars in some cases, were those so-called “rollback” payments. Officials found 54 of them, uncashed, in the desk.

Straub was supposed to have recorded the rollbacks and to have sent the checks to the treasurer’s office, where the tax money would have been disbursed to the county, school districts, townships and boroughs. The interest goes to the county Agricultural Preservation Board.

Those checks totaled $1,113,444.02, Ebersole said.

For these 54 checks, the average check value would be +/- Twenty Thousand Dollars ! Who wrote these 54 checks ? Were they all from the same person/company ? If they were from 54 different people, then Dave would have been getting 54 calls a day as to why the checks had not cleared. Unless the people/company that wrote the checks new that Dave was sitting on them. Ha Ha Ha - How's that for another County Govt. Conspiracy for ya - Zippy ???? Who's developed a boatload of land in the County, lately ? Revelation ???? Dave's boss's picture is in the paper, today. He looks concerned. "Everything is here. It just didn't get moved to the recorder of deeds office and where it needs to go."

Maybe the checks are no good ? What happens if Craig and Phil deposit these checks and they all bounce ?

I see that Dave's job is advertised. http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/lanco/cwp/vi...?A=510&Q=577027

Looks like it's one of those pretend-to-pay / pretend-to-work kind of jobs.

Has anybody seen any follow-up to this story ? Thanks.

Meantime, top county officials were hard-pressed to explain why no one in the courthouse, and particularly the tax assessment office, noticed the former employee apparently wasn’t doing his job over the past three years.

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all

Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall
