If an audit shows no money is missing, the County has no loss.
Therefore, no crime.
The largest checks, for tens of thousands of dollars in some cases, were those so-called “rollback” payments. Officials found 54 of them, uncashed, in the desk.
Straub was supposed to have recorded the rollbacks and to have sent the checks to the treasurer’s office, where the tax money would have been disbursed to the county, school districts, townships and boroughs. The interest goes to the county Agricultural Preservation Board.
Those checks totaled $1,113,444.02, Ebersole said.
For these 54 checks, the average check value would be +/- Twenty Thousand Dollars ! Who wrote these 54 checks ? Were they all from the same person/company ? If they were from 54 different people, then Dave would have been getting 54 calls a day as to why the checks had not cleared. Unless the people/company that wrote the checks new that Dave was sitting on them. Ha Ha Ha - How's that for another County Govt. Conspiracy for ya - Zippy ???? Who's developed a boatload of land in the County, lately ? Revelation ???? Dave's boss's picture is in the paper, today. He looks concerned. "Everything is here. It just didn't get moved to the recorder of deeds office and where it needs to go."
Maybe the checks are no good ? What happens if Craig and Phil deposit these checks and they all bounce ?
