Dixon treated unfairly by report's early release
Nelson M. Polite, Sr. Lancaster
Editor, New Era:
I have been following the one-sided reporting and the very unfair treatment my daughter Patrice Polite Dixon has been receiving in the news media over recent weeks. It is very unethical to drag someone's name down using untrue allegations received in a report from the State Auditor General's office which was clearly marked "Draft -- Not For Public Distribution."
Certainly those public officials responsible for the leak of information should be held accountable.
The report contained a great deal of conjecture which was based on information gathered from one side of the story.
Our family has very deep ethical roots which were ingrained into us by our fore-parents over the years. Teachings included being honest and truthful and to give our God-given service to others.
As an elected official who has given many years of honorable and dedicated service to this community and its school system, I say shame on the district administration and the press for dragging our family name down over a matter of so-called "he said, she said" information.
Yes, there may have been some bad votes made, but that is why we employ solicitors to guide us when the law is unclear.
My daughter was taught to never pressure anyone! As one of the distinguished alumni of J. P. McCaskey High School, I feel disappointed with some of the decisions being made that do not benefit our school system.
Patrice demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to the SDoL when, as president, she led the district through some difficult times. However, when the administration changed and she expressed some disagreement with some flawed policies and decisions being made, power struggles surfaced and outside investigations were started.
I certainly hope there were no racial overtones as part of the decision.
The question should be asked why are the board and administration wasting energies and tax dollars on this, when they should be improving policies and procedures that will benefit our failing school system and its underprivileged children?
