Problems with the writeup and situation......... If the machine is so valuable, why was it being stored in a vehicle? Secondly, if the vehicle is insured did she check with her Insurance Carrier to find out if the theft is covered? Hopefully the thief or thieves will have a heart and return the item - if they read?????

1) The breathing machine would likely be covered by her car insurance under 'theft', but we all know, life & death or not, that won't come thru for her in a jiffy. She may need to contact social services in the hospital to help her solve this immediate problem. The mans doctors have probably already advised her to do so.
2) That she had it in her car means nothing. She picked it up, and would likely have just brought it into her house, or his, when he was released from the hospital this weekend. We all leave things in our locked cars. Maybe we shouldn't, but we also shouldn't have to be worried about doing so.
3) As for this person being a 'decent person' and returning the apparatus, uhm, well, decent persons don't steal cars..................

So right, August. Its a damn shame we can't leave things in our cars. I hope they catch this guy and hang him by him you know whats.

I feel for the guy. I sleep with a CPAP machine myself and couldn't imagine living without it. I've only ever forgotted to take it with me once on a trip and it was horrible sleeping without it.

If no one will pay for a replacement you can always just buy one from cpap.com, that's where I bought mine. They are much more reasonable than buying locally. Also, you can rent machines as well, that would be a good temporary solution.
