Of all the places I've been in North America - and I've visited more than a few - Lancaster County is the one MOST likely to be judgemental. How many people have been blasted on this very board simply because they are Democrats? How many people have prejudged Dick Shellenberger and Molly Henderson without taking the time to learn the truth? There are dozens of examples like these. Personally, I'm not surprised one bit.
This has not been my experience at all. I find Lancaster County to have a good mix of the red and blue. (wasn't it 45 and 50 percent or something like that?) I have never pulled the big lever in either camp. I would not take the people who write on this board as a good representation of the County. Lancaster is a unique place. There are tons of international students coming to our high schools and colleges and living with host families. They like to come to this area because of the acceptance they feel here and the strong families yet close to major cities like new york and washington. It is amazing how many people from lancaster you can meet overseas and not just visiting but living there. This is a very well traveled place for being mostly rural.
The international press loved covering Floyd because believe it or not a lot of people from Europe know about this area. My one German friend thinks the Amish are the best dressed of any Americans he has met.
