Exactly what I wondered after the opening arguments. Bearing in mind that the papers can only print summaries of the court happenings, I noted that Renteria alluded to the many enemies of Stewart when throwing out some alternative theories in his opening statements. I've seen nothing in the way of support presented in his attempts at defense, however. It leads me to believe there is nothing there to substantiate that point -- and his lawyer knows it. As a result, it strikes me as a good ol'-fashioned smokescreen.
