The report also suggests the county revamp how officials hire administrators and requests that the state Legislature enact tougher laws prohibiting secret meetings by government officials

We're screwed! The grand jurists are sending us to the STATE for relief regarding secret meetings? So they say in their report, which was drafted in a secret meeting. (a cheap shot, unfortunely someone will read it and think this makes sense)
I'll admit to frowning when I read how Shellenberger solicited campaign contributions from Espenshade. But as I gave it more thought it occurred to me that the law firm got to do $300,000 in business whether or not they contributed anything. It's hard to perceive that as anything more than, "You've got plenty of money, you can afford a measly 20" on his way out the door. Perhaps if I imagined the same line with an sinister hiss.
I hope this paper and DA Tataro have a LITTLE energy left to pursue the LCCCA's lack of accountability to the public. I'm certainly noticing the imbalance.

I direct your attention to page A2 of Friday's Intell where under the corrections/clarifications section the editors have to admit they "erred by failing to make it clear that Henderson was not mention in the grand jury report in relation to these charges."

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the latest in what has been and will increasingly become a steady drumbeat to get Shellenberger and Henderson to resign. LNP was likely threatened with legal action if the retraction did not occur immediately.

Why is LNP so desperate that it would stoop to potential libel? They know that as long as these commissioners are in office the fourth and pivotal seat on the LCCCA board will likely go to a citizen who will look closely at the convention center project, of which it is a 44% stakeholder.

This is what the smear campaign is about. Get used to it.

Too bad that reporter Dave Pidgeon has allowed himself to be dragged into the Lancaster Newspapers libelous efforts to protect their hotel/convention center project After a year long witch hunt, the Republican DA ended up with a couptle of $100 fines instead of wrongdoing which would force the anti-convention center commissoners from office, the newspapers went into full panic mode. Thhe 4th convention center board seat opens up in September and they do not want an investigation of that project.
Here is the correction the Intell buried on page two:

"In its report released Wednesday, the grand jury investigation of the actions of the Lancaster County Commissioners in relation to the hiring of Gary Heinke and the sale of Conestoga View indicated that it considered, but rejected, bringing criminal charges in several matters uncovered by its investigation. None of these matters involved Commissioner Molly Henderson, according to the report.
A story in Thursday's Intelligencer Journal grouped Henderson with commissioners Pete Shaub and Dick Shellenberger when reporting on what the newspaper described as "serious criminal charges" considered by the grand jury. The Intell erred by failing to make it clear that Henderson was not mentioned in the grand jury report in relation to these charges."

For his own sake, Pidgeon should move on to a newspaper which understands journalistic ethics. And, on his way out the door, he ought to recommend that Editor Shaw resign.

Does anyone know the amount of money spent for this grand jury investigation? Are the taxpayers picking up the tab?
