Mixxster,

I read your post earlier and I didn't understand it and I shared it with friends and I think I now know what you are were alluding to but I don't think you have
understood my message.

You are right in that I have posted "at least 5 or 6 times" that Marilyn Crawford
was Vicki Phillip's "good friend"...

When Vicki Phillips brought Marilyn Crawford into the District and introduced her to the Middle School Administrators, she introduced her as "my very good friend".

She told the Middle School Administrators that she had the utmost confidence
that Marilyn Crawford would turn the Middle School program in the District around
and solve all of it's problems.
At that point Marilyn Crawford proceeded to go into the Middle Schools and, with her half-brained ideas and programs, managed to turn the existing problems
into chaos.

Every time an Administrator or teacher questioned her plan she reminded them that she was "Miss Vicki's friend"... and that they did not understand how to manage
a Middle School program as well as she did.

My comments about Marilyn Crawford being "Miss Vicki's friend" was directed to the many Middle School teachers who post on this forum and know what I am speaking about, because they have all heard it before.

You should ask, through the message system of this forum, about something that you feel is bothering you before you make comments like you did in your post.

Ann Nice, President of the 3,600-member Portland Association of Teachers, said she had just one hour to check candidate credentials and only had a superficial understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

"The process this time didn't involve enough time to have the school community fully participate and ask good questions," Nice said. "The process two years ago ended up being a circus. I feel we've almost gone to the other extreme here."

Ann, wait until later...

You will learn to love her...

"In the last couple of years, we've had a lot of superintendents," said Cedia Jabbie, a 16-year-old junior, "and I want to know if this is just a stepping stone for you."

Replied Phillips: "No, I'm not a 'here today and gone tomorrow' type of person."

As she left Roosevelt, Phillips waved her notes at the students, telling the sophomores and freshmen she'd be back in three years to discuss results.

"You need to feel OK about yanking my chain when you feel that I'm not doing enough," Phillips told them.

Like all 10 Portland high schools and nine of its 19 middle schools, all five middle and high schools in Phillips' previous district failed to hit federal performance targets under the No Child Left Behind law.

In Lancaster, Pa., a predominately Puerto Rican and African American district of 11,000, Phillips is heralded for boosting student achievement
This is another article from the Oregonian...

Sound familiar...

skyman,

My apologies if I misunderstood your comments. I am aware that Marilyn and Vicki are friends. However, the fact that every time you posted something about their relationship you put the phrase in quotes made it appear to me that you were trying to imply something else. I now assume, based your latest remarks, that the quotation marks were used in the standard way to reflect exact remarks made by Ms. Phillips, although it would seem odd, in a professional setting, that Vicki Phillips would use the word "confidant" to describe someone she was hiring as a consultant. However, since I have no knowledge to the contrary, I'll accept your word for it unless I hear differently.

You may want to remember that this board is read by other than middle school teachers and SDL insiders. I doubt that I was the only person to get the same impression of your remarks.
