Lancaster's schools are brutal

Not as bad as Harrisburg, York or Philadelphia.

the roads are bad and we're going to have the mayor having to pay a groundskeeper 40K a year instead of having a cop on the streets

Let's not forget the city wants to "hire" the parking garage attendants and lay off more firefighters.

And who is going to pay for all the additional security that MUST be present at a game inside and outside the stadium

Security wasn't a problem at the recent Lancaster Square "Blues and Brews" fest. I saw eight officers in uniform congregating outside the perimeter of the brew tasting area of Binn's Park. At least two of those officers were probably semi-retired. There was also plenty of security at Long's Park Summer concert series.

Chas, I certainly didn't attend any of the meetings. I am simply familiar with Mr. Kirk and care about the City.

Umm, I could have sworn that the County Commissioners backed the bonds. I guess I am wrong.

I've had dealings with Minor League Baseball in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and PA, while reading extensively about New York and New Jersey's struggles with affiliated and unaffiliated baseball. This is why I am concerned about Lancaster's foray into independent baseball.

Chas, Thank you for link. I am, however, already quite familiar with Tetra Tech's work (Lancaster's website misspells the company's name).

Please understand, I am not a fool to think that the County somehow pays for the City School District. My point is that there is a level of risk involved here on the part of the local taxpayers. Peter Kirk is very smart in his dealings and always makes sure that this is the case (evidence Hughesville, MD, Frederick, MD, York etc.). Everyone knows that the Harrisburg's stadium is sad, but at least they play 'real' baseball.

That being said, I think Lancaster's team will succeed during the first year or two. I've said it before, I'll attend games and be a fan.

is this about making money???
well let's see, the AL has 7 teams and Lancaster will be the 8th, or it will be the 7th when the PA RoadWarriors dissolve. That being said, six of the seven teams are owned by three people. Kalafer has Newark, part Camden, and Somerset, while Boulton has AC, LI and part Camden, and Kirk has Lancaster and part Camden.
So if it is about making money, how come their interest in Camden saved it from bankruptcy (http://www.courierpostonline.com/news/sports/s101504g.htm). And the other owner in the league, Chris English, finally made his first profit in 6 years (http://www.newhampshireprimary.com/articles_showa.html?article=41200) and promises that the Pride aren't going anywhere.
Gosh, in 6 or 7 years, several teams are struggling and depending on how you look at things, 3 or 4 teams have folded.
This is why I am concerned about expansion into Lancaster, York, possibly Williams TWP, and Hughesville, MD.
