I am not defending the guy, because I have no clue why you would plug a block heater in during the month of July, unless you were in Greenland. But, in the same respect, I do not know anyone that uses a block heater for their vehicle and "attends" to it the entire time. This would be completely foolish. A block heater is used to keep the temperature of the coolant in an engine block warm, so that it can assist in start up. Most people that live in cold weather climates, and use these heaters, leave them plugged into the vehicles over night. When I was in the military, I was stationed in Greenland for a short time. Block heaters were standard procedure on all of the vehicles. Yet, we did not stand there and watch them the whole time that they were plugged in......

I was wondering why anyone in our area would use block heaters but I don't know too much about cars. The article said he was having trouble with the engine on his truck, what would block heater help?

There are a few vehicles that use block heaters in this area. Most of them are diesels.......
