WHAT!?!? No definitive survey of Whoopie Pies should have missed the selections at the Shady Maple Farm Market, out just east of Blue Ball!

I've also had some Whoopie Pies that were, more or less, privately made (i.e., it was an Amish family in Leola, and they operate a small grocery store for the locals, and they will make Whoopies "on order", if you order a bunch) that were probably at the top of "my" list, but since it's not local for me (I'm now living in L.A.!) I can't provide the name any more...

Yep, nothing like a still-a-liitle warm homemade whoopie pie given to you by an Amish cook - almost wish we still had our old motor paper route - the Amish customers were very generous and appreciative!

The best are of course homemade or from the "Farmers Market." I remember as a kid getting them at Willow Valley Farmer's Market stall at Meadowbrook Farmers Market. But as an adult I tend to go to Achenbach's every time I'm home, for Whoopie Pies to share with the office, and "Long John's" to selfishly gobble up myself :-) Last September my girl friends and I came to Lancaster for a shopping weekend and truly enjoyed ourselves at Achenbach's, we each even picked up a "Home of Johnny the Long John" t-shirt for our Husbands. They are now bugging me to set a date so we can go again.

Dimples, so you know they now make a Long John cake? lol - not for those on a diet

Yes, I almost had my neighbor's pick one up on their way down to our Anniversary party next month. We decided it was better to just get a sheet cake from Sam's then have our friends worry about destroying our cake :-)

My daughter makes Whoopie Pies as good as any I ever tasted, and I have tasted quite a few. She earned 100 dollars for a plate of her Whoopie Pies , one time at a church auction. So many people were bidding on them that it turned into a riot of bidding . She does make good Whoopie Pies.
